Pete

So it’s Friday at 2:15am  and i’m sitting alone in my family room drinking Chardonnay.  Usually I’m sitting in here with my black lab Pete.  Pete’s not sitting here with me because we had to put him to sleep at 8 o’clock last night.  It started around 8 o’clock pm Wednesday night.  Pete wasn’t feeling right.  Sam always lets the dogs out at 10:30 at night but Pete for some reason didn’t wanna go outside Sam coaxed him to go outside to do his business and Pete just stood there.  Pete then came in the house and went into the laundry room and laid down.  Both my dogs have always been able to go anywhere they want in the house the only time they go in the laundry room is if they were really muddy and I had to wash them off and they were soaking wet or if somebody was coming over and we had to put them in there because either they didn’t like dogs or Pete didn’t like them. So Sam and I went to bed around 11.  I checked on Pete around 1:30 in the morning and he was laying in this massive cage that we have in our laundry room that we bought after Butch ( yellow lab ) had one of his 3 surgeries. Now I use it to put my son’s dog in when he’s spending the night and can’t be trusted since he’s just  a year old.  At 6:30 in the morning I got up to let the dogs out and Pete was still in the laundry room but there was bloody poop everywhere and Pete was laying in the middle of it and barely had his eyes open - no tail wagging just laying there. Well our vet doesn’t open till 8 o’clock so we picked Pete up and took him to the emergency vet clinic in Highland Heights.  When we pulled up they were there with a gurney to bring Pete in.  They take Pete back and the first thing the woman says we need $475 to look at him.  I give them our credit card and then they take us to a room in the back to wait to talk to a doctor. Doctor came in said Pete is in critical condition they don’t know what’s wrong with him but to proceed will cost us another $2500.  I give them our credit card they mentioned that his blood work is just terrible.  They’re going to do x-rays and ultrasound they can’t do an MRI because he would have to be sedated and he’s too critical condition to sedate him mind you 14 hours earlier this dog was running around happy playing and enjoying the weather.  They told us to go home that Pete would not be going anywhere anytime soon but before we left they said it might be $6000 before they get done figuring out what’s wrong with Pete depending on what they might have to do for him. I’m telling you right now if you have a pet get pet insurance. The doctor mentioned some disease called Addison’s when I came home and googled it it said about how it comes on quickly in dogs and that they have bloody diarrhea and yes when we went back to see Pete he was just had blood pouring out of his butt but with Addison’s disease there’s also vomiting and I told the doctor he never vomited that we know of.  They had him on two antibiotics - steroids  - pain meds and had a catheter in him.  So we’re sitting at home wondering what the hell happened. Any 12 o’clock I call the vet hospital and speak to a tech and she said I think he might be doing better he lifted his head.  They are waiting to get the results back about the Addison’s disease.  I called at 4 o’clock and the doctor is doing rounds and will call us back.  5 o’clock the doctor calls and said that clinically Pete hasn’t gotten any better but they’re hopeful he will since he’s only been on medication antibiotics for nine hours and they still haven’t gotten the blood results for Addison disease.  I asked if we could come see him and they said sure they’re open 24/7  and I can come anytime we want. Sam and I went in to see Pete and when we got there the doctor said he doesn’t have Addison’s he has Sepsis and he probably will not be getting better.  And why we’re standing there he starts going into arrhythmia his hearts failing she said he could have a heart attack or stroke caused by blood clot and they can’t stop the blood from pouring out of his butt.  Our daughter comes to say goodbye to him.  The staff at the hospital was great very concerned about us and Pete. It’s terrible losing a pet but I feel really sorry for my yellow lab Butch they were always together.  What’s going through my mind now is when it’s Butches time I don’t know how the hell we’re gonna get them to the vet.   Pete was a little bit smaller than Butch and Sam had such a hard time lifting him up off the floor and getting him to the truck.  I guess we’ll have to call the kids.  I will never ever get another dog.  If I’m lonely I’ll just bring my Son & DIL’s dog or my Daughter & SIL’s dog over to my house.  It’s gonna look weird in my family room instead of two dog beds they’ll be one also in our bedroom instead of two beds they’ll be one - in the laundry room they’ll only be Butch’s bowls to eat and drink out of.   I’ll probably give Butch extra treats today and spend a little more time with him. I’ll be fine this is not the first pet I’ve had to put to sleep but Sam is terrible when it comes to stuff like this — When I die if there’s an after life —  I wanna come back as one of my Sam’s pets.

No take backs

Every time I start to write something down I get nervous. I worry about my spelling, the sentence structure, and punctuation, but even more I stress over the content of my words. Once it is written and published that's it, no take backs, I can't say, "I never said that". Well yes I did, there it is in black and white.

That's why I don't like to text on my phone. I like to talk -- not text. Text is fooorrrreeevvveeerrrrrr. I look back at some of the texts I have received over the years ( I saved certain ones ) and although most were nice such as " Happy Birthday" or "Congratulations" there were a few not so nice.

There is an old saying "The pen is mightier then the sword". Well because of that, my advice though it is unsolicited, be careful with your words. As the great Yoda would say, "One should choose wisely" because after all is said and done ---- there are no take backs.

I have never stood in line for a Beef Tenderloin

It really didn't feel like Easter to me this year. I was going to make Easter Baskets for the kids and my husband said " Are you nuts" (I hear that alot)" They're 40 years old for Christ sake, why would you give them Easter Baskets?" --- and he calls me nuts.

Anyway, I picked up a Honey Baked Ham on Friday. Usually I wait till the Saturday before Easter to get the Ham but I took a chance that there might not be a long line. I usually wait at least 20 minutes in line ( for a Ham ). I mean really --- it's Ham. I pulled into the parking lot and my heart skipped a beat -- no one was waiting by the door. This was the first time I have been to this Honey Baked Ham store. I didn't realize until I opened the door how long the line was, and that it was weaving back and forth thru the store up to the counter.

While I was standing there, a women walks in and gets behind me and says " Wow this line is so short now" -- she said she was there earlier and left because there were at least 100 people in line and out the door. Are you kidding me? There are at least 40 in here now and soon as one leaves another files in. That's alot of Ham.

I like Ham, but it's no Beef Tenderloin. Why do I feel pressure to get a Ham for Easter -- and stand in line to get it. I have never stood in line for a Beef Tenderloin.

Who started the tradition of serving Ham on Easter? Why don't we serve Chicken or Rabbit? What does a Pig have to do with Easter?

Next Easter there will be Baskets!

Nutrisystems Sucks

I needed to lose weight. Those infomercials sucked me in. I went on line to sign up, after all -- look at all the celebrities who had success. Well they must have been receiving different food then I did. When I was going back and forth with the live chat on line -- I should have known something was amiss, not kosher, just wrong. On line I think the person I was chatting with had never eaten nutrisystems -- and probably never will. The language & their sentence structure was not normal. I am pretty sure they were located in India.

Anyway they assured me --
IF I PURCHASE NOW AND AM NOT SATISFIED I CAN CANCEL AND NOT GET CHARGED ANY ADDITIONAL FEE FOR EARLY CANCELLATION.

SUCKER!

They charged me an extra $50 on top of the agreed price for the food. Once they have your card number you are screwed. I still have this huge box of crap food in the pantry and every now and then when I don't want to make something and I feel guilty about the expense -- I open one of the packets and force myself to eat it. It does make it easier to swallow if you wash it down with 2 glasses of wine.

Professional Blogger

I was watching TV the other day and they were talking about a professional blogger named "Perez Hilton". How does one become a professional blogger? How many blogs do you need to write to be considered a professional? How do you get paid to be a professional blogger. I have written 3 blogs and have not received a penny. Do you need a degree in blogging? I have been looking for a part-time job and have never seen an ad for a blogger. And where did the word blogging come from? Someone had to make up the name -- who did it? I need answers.

Watching the Dog

Well my daughter and son in-law are in Hawaii visiting my son & daughter in-law and I'm home watching their dog Moose. I met my son in-laws mother over at my daughter and son in-laws house. She was petting Moose when she sees bright red spots on his belly. GREAT I thought --- this dog is either going to die while I am watching him or I am going to have a HUGE vet bill. I throw Moose in the car and drive to his Vet. I'm in the parking lot looking at the Vet sign and it has the phone number so I call from the parking lot so I would not get charged for an office visit. I told the receptionist what the rash looked like and she said to hold on. Five minutes goes by and no answer. So I call back and someone else answers and she said " hold on, I will get the person you were speaking with". Ok, so another 5 minutes goes by and I hang up again. Moose is not making a sound -- I get out and open the little crate he is in and he was sleeping. Well I don't know if it's from all the fresh air ( he was outside all day with me ) or he's sick. I called back again and they said not to worry -- they are just bug bites -- get him some cortisone cream and put it on them. Don't bring him in unless the start to ooze. Ooze? Please don't ooze. Well I go to CVS and buy the cream. I bring Moose in the house lay him on his back --- Where the hell did the red spots go? I need some wine.

Burnt Bagel

Well, I'm in Ko Olina and my son set up a blog for me. While he was setting it up I burnt my bagel. My husband kept asking me to cut the fresh pineapple for him. SHUT UP!!! Geez I'm on vacation too. My husband is not happy about this blog. He hates computers. He thinks they are a waste of time ( he doesn't know how to turn on a computer ) We are sitting around waiting for a convertible from Hertz. Enterprise first sounded like the best deal --- but then they had all these add ons!!!! Man I hate having to call around for prices on a car instead of sitting and enjoying the day. Ok I have to stop because my husband is still waiting for his pineapple.
